The pumped storage power plant in Linthal Tierfehd is to be developed as management headquarters of all Axpo power plants in Glarus. Through developing the infrastructure, OAP shows how the different work areas can be functionally reorganized by guaranteeing a successful operational workflow without causing annoying interruptions by construction activities while the power plant is running. Therefore several construction stages are provided. By unbundling functional areas, consolidation and enlargement of magazines, workshops and offices of the electrical and mechanical areas, improvement of workflow and organization is achieved. Future extensions, both in surface and in height are possible and allowed for.
OAP produces two functionally equivalent designs for the competition.
Both provide only minimal intervention to the existing buildings, as they are in good condition and architecturally appealing.
Presented here is Design No. 2, which provides a generous maintenance depot on the 1st floor level. Electricity / Mechanical workshops and magazines are planned here, together with a future warehouse. The grouping of buildings around the work yard allows for optimal light quality in the workshops and guarantees an efficient organisation of the whole infrastructure. This yard is suitable especially for larger vehicles and the delivery to the workshops and magazines is optimized.
In the administration area next to the existing entrance, OAP provides a representative auditorium and meeting pavillion and its generous modern glazing adds a reference to the surrounding landscape. Simultaneously this beautiful room can be used as a large staff lounge.
In addition to the functional aspects of the interweaving of existing and new built, the quality of the existing 50s architecture is empasized and continoued by the new buildings in a separate functional modernity.
